Eagle Point At Vail - Vail, Colorado, 81657, United States

Directions

The drive to Eagle Point can be an adventure in itself and the perfect start to a mountain vacation. Take a moment to stop at the various points of interest on I-70 along the way. About 20 minutes outside of Denver at Genesee Park, exit 254, lives a large herd of bison (buffalo). Part of the City of Denver Mountain Park system, the buffalo herd is fed every day. You can usually see them on either side of the freeway. Between Idaho Springs and Georgetown, keep an eye out for bighorn sheep often seen on the cliffs or grazing at the base of the mountain. For panoramic mountain views take exit 216, Loveland Pass Hwy 6, which leads you over the Eisenhower/Johnson Tunnell and the continental divide, past the Arapahoe Basin ski area, through the town of Dillon, then returns to I-70.

During peak summer and winter seasons, be prepared for heavy traffic on I-70 heading into the mountains Friday evenings and Saturday mornings and returning to Denver on Sunday afternoons with up to 2 hour delays. Special Travel Alert for Fall 2014: Construction is underway at the twin tunnels just East of Idaho Springs. Please expect up to 20 minute delays on weekdays and follow the detour signs.
